Solar Project Engineer

The Solar Project Engineer role at Moss Construction supports utility scale solar projects from Honolulu, HI. The position assists the Project Manager and project team with planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities across multiple states and requires high travel. Moss is a national construction firm specializing in solar EPC work and ranked as the third-largest solar EPC contractor in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Establish document control procedures and perform quantity takeoffs during pre-construction
• Conduct site investigations, value engineering, and constructability reviews
• Monitor pre-construction schedules and assist with subcontractor and vendor solicitation
• Develop quality control plans, scopes of work, and bid packages
• Initiate permit processes and assist with budget presentations
• Review owner contracts and develop startup checklists and site utilization plans
• Coordinate mobilization and finalize project management software setup
• Develop submittal logs and fabrication and delivery schedules
• Review submittals, coordination drawings, and verify material delivery status
• Coordinate owner-furnished materials and monitor off-site storage
• Strategize with superintendents and conduct subcontractor pre-construction meetings
• Maintain activity tracking logs and participate in schedule updates
• Conduct quality control inspections and verify field installations
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures during construction activities
• Expedite subcontractor and vendor agreements and process insurance and bond documents
• Prepare meeting agendas and minutes and maintain jobsite files
• Administer the RFI process and generate project correspondence
• Process subcontractor and vendor pay requests and track owner payments
• Track subcontractor back charges and update labor cost reports
• Create change requests, review scope changes, and determine schedule impacts
• Expedite subcontractor and vendor pricing for cost proposals
• Prepare closeout logs, coordinate punch list processes, and document owner training
• Commission building systems and prepare O&M manuals and warranties
• Compile as-built drawings and complete subcontractor and vendor closeout

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related discipline
• 6 months to one year of internship experience as a project engineer or assistant project engineer in the construction industry
• Familiarity with construction project management applications
• Basic finance skills
• Ability to travel frequently across multiple states
