The Solar & BESS Technician II position at AES is based in Adelanto, CA, and supports operations and maintenance for utility-scale solar energy plants in California's Central Valley and Kern County. AES CE, headquartered in Salt Lake City, manages these renewable assets that include solar PV and battery storage systems. The role covers daily field work on inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, and battery equipment, with both independent tasks and crew assignments.
Responsibilities
- Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations on utility-scale solar plants and BESS equipment
- Maintain Fluence Battery Systems or comparable units, AE 1000NX, AE 500NX, SMA 750CP, SMA SC2200-2750 inverters, DC combiner boxes, ATI Trackers V2/V2.5/V3, NexTracker, and First Solar trackers
- Execute high, medium, and low voltage switching
- Complete technical and administrative duties required to operate and maintain the power facility
- Ensure all work meets environmental and safety requirements
- Work independently or as part of a crew
Requirements
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent journeyman qualifications
- Three or more years as a PV O&M solar technician, or five or more years in a power plant with one or more years in PV solar O&M or construction
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals including electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid state theory application
- Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices in power facilities
- Experience with multiple electrical or construction projects and basic IT equipment
- Proficiency operating a personal computer with standard business software
- Ability to read, write, and understand English
- Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations
- Hands-on technical skills with technical equipment and engineering tasks

Base pay ranges from $35.00 to $42.08 per hour depending on location, knowledge, skills, and experience. The position requires outdoor work in varying temperatures and humidity, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, entering plant equipment, use of personal protective equipment, work around rotating and energized equipment and hazardous materials, occasional lifting, overtime and non-standard hours, and travel to sites outside the typical area.
