Solar Project Engineer

Moss Construction is hiring a Solar Project Engineer for utility-scale solar projects on Maui, HI. The role works with the project manager and team on planning and daily execution of construction, including tracking submittals, material deliveries, and contract documents. The position is full-time, salary exempt, and reports to the Solar Project Manager.

Responsibilities

• Establish document control procedures and perform quantity takeoffs during pre-construction
• Conduct site investigations and participate in value engineering and constructability reviews
• Monitor pre-construction schedules and assist with subcontractor and vendor solicitation
• Develop quality control plans, scopes of work, and bid packages while documenting pre-construction meetings
• Initiate the permit process and assist with budget presentations and mock-up construction
• Review owner contracts and develop startup checklists and site utilization plans
• Coordinate mobilization and subcontractor and vendor selection while identifying critical issues and milestones
• Finalize project management software setup and participate in construction schedule development
• Develop submittal logs and fabrication and delivery schedules to expedite materials
• Confirm material deliveries, review coordination drawings, and verify fabrication status
• Coordinate owner-furnished materials and monitor off-site stored materials
• Strategize with the superintendent and conduct subcontractor pre-construction meetings
• Maintain activity tracking logs and participate in schedule updates and quality control inspections
• Verify field installations and ensure compliance with safety procedures and policies
• Coordinate storage of delivered materials and participate in daily superintendent and jobsite meetings
• Expedite subcontractor and vendor agreements along with insurance and bond requirements
• Prepare meeting agendas and minutes and maintain jobsite files and progress photos
• Process subcontractor and vendor pay requests and track owner payments and back charges
• Update labor cost reports and create change requests while reviewing scope changes for schedule impacts
• Issue owner notifications and expedite subcontractor and vendor pricing for cost proposals
• Prepare closeout logs and participate in the punch list process
• Coordinate and document owner training and commission building systems
• Prepare operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and as-built drawings
• Coordinate transfer of attic stock and complete subcontractor and vendor closeout
• Demobilize the site and participate in professional development activities such as training programs and mentoring

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related discipline
• 6 months to 1 year of internship experience as a project engineer or assistant project engineer in the construction industry
• Strong computer skills including familiarity with construction project management applications
• Basic finance skills
