Job Description

Solar Technician I at ENGIE supports operation and maintenance at the Ray Ranch Solar Site in Goliad, TX. This entry-level field role involves hands-on work with photovoltaic inverters, solar panels, and tracking systems, using SCADA, Maximo, and SAP for work orders and reporting. The position requires residence within 80 miles of the site due to on-call rotation and consists of 80 percent outdoor work.

Responsibilities

  • Complete permits to work, job safety plans, lock-out tag-out procedures, and last-minute risk assessments.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on photovoltaic inverters, solar panels, tracking systems, and related solar plant equipment under senior technician supervision.
  • Operate hand tools and electrical testing equipment including screwdrivers, wrenches, battery-powered drills, multimeters, and amp clamps.
  • Execute ENGIE job-specific documentation such as LOTO procedures, work instructions, and routine maintenance checklists.
  • Create and close out work orders in the Maximo system.
  • Conduct site safety orientations for OEM representatives, independent service providers, vendors, and visitors while ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Perform LOTO and provide general supervision for non-ENGIE employees as needed.
  • Maintain accurate parts and tooling inventory.

Requirements

  • Minimum diploma or certification in a technical program covering AC/DC electrical theory, blueprint and schematic reading, or industrial electrical equipment; military equivalent experience accepted.
  • Two years of experience at solar generation sites or wind generation sites in lieu of a degree.
  • General knowledge of AC/DC voltage, electrical theory, one-line and three-line schematics, and operation of electrical equipment including AC/DC breakers, disconnects, MV transformers, NO/NC contactors, and relays.
  • Ability to select proper PPE for electrical work and read switching orders.
  • Obtain appropriate substation training or certifications within 12 months of hire.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record to operate company vehicles.
  • Availability for on-call duties, night shifts, and extended hours outdoors in extreme heat or cold.
  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel domestically to support other ENGIE renewable sites including solar, wind, and BESS.
  • Completion of ENGIE Qualified Electrical Worker Competency Skills test covering hot-cold-hot testing, PPE use, and cluster grounds.
