Field Service Technician II (Traveling)

This position is for a Field Service Technician II (Traveling) with ENGIE, based remotely in Texas. The role provides technical support for renewable energy assets that include solar photovoltaic systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), wind turbines, and medium- to high-voltage substations, reporting to the Director of Operations (High Voltage Support). The work covers reactive, preventive, and predictive maintenance across multiple sites, with 70% of time spent outdoors and regular travel to facilities in the U.S. and Canada.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on technical work on inverters, BESS units, DC electrical systems, solar arrays, and medium-voltage transformers.
• Respond to unplanned maintenance needs and carry out preventive and predictive maintenance tasks at multiple sites.
• Assist with system commissioning and troubleshoot equipment both onsite and remotely.
• Enforce compliance with safety protocols including Job Safety Analyses, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and personal protective equipment use.
• Conduct routine site inspections using tools such as hot sticks, arc-flash suits, voltage detectors, and oil sampling kits.
• Generate documentation for all work performed, including daily logs, maintenance reports, and equipment updates.
• Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors and vendors for work execution.
• Support implementation of upgrades, technology enhancements, and site improvement initiatives with engineering teams.
• Assist in training team members and contractors on equipment operation and safety practices.
• Utilize digital systems for managing work orders, procurement, and inventory tracking.
• Support electrical maintenance, testing, and repair of low-, medium-, and high-voltage systems during emergencies and planned outages.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years of hands-on experience in solar generation, Battery Energy Storage Systems, wind generation, utility-scale power plants, or substation maintenance.
• Experience with equipment commissioning, troubleshooting, and routine operations in renewable energy environments.
• Strong understanding of electrical theory, power systems, and medium-voltage equipment operations up to 34.5 kV; higher voltage experience up to 345 kV strongly desired.
• Ability to safely perform switching operations and isolate medium-voltage transformers and breakers.
• Knowledge and experience with Lockout/Tagout procedures; switching and tagging experience highly valued.
• Capability to troubleshoot and maintain OEM control systems and interface with SCADA and plant control systems.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Availability to travel domestically up to 85% of the time, including short-notice and extended durations, and to respond to on-call plant emergencies.
• Willingness to work independently in remote locations.
