Job Description

Palmetto Clean Tech seeks a Solar Field Service Technician in Phoenix, AZ to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain residential solar and storage systems throughout their operational lifespan. This role reports to the Team Lead of Service Operations and is central to ensuring customer satisfaction and system performance.

About the Role

The Solar Field Service Technician serves as a versatile field representative responsible for onsite system diagnostics, repairs, and customer support. You will work across service, installation, job closeout, and permitting activities, building lasting customer relationships while upholding system performance standards. This position requires hands-on technical expertise and the ability to communicate professionally with homeowners and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform onsite troubleshooting and repair of residential solar photovoltaic and energy storage systems.
  • Complete documentation and job closeout reports following each service visit.
  • Schedule site visits directly with customers and coordinate with local field teams and central scheduling to optimize resolution timelines.
  • Conduct operations and maintenance (O&M) work and system monitoring support.
  • Perform site surveys, inspections, and physical assessments of customer properties.
  • Assist with pre-energization closeout to ensure systems are ready for operation upon receipt of permission to operate.
  • Support field installations including PV modules, battery storage, combiner boxes, and structural upgrades as needed.
  • Execute safety and quality site audits, job closeout reviews, and inspections.
  • Investigate damage claims and equipment failures in the field.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to field leadership and customer experience teams to drive continuous improvement in installation quality and service delivery.
  • Communicate arrival times and visit confirmations to homeowners as required.
  • Perform additional tasks including physical surveys and document collection.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience installing, repairing, and troubleshooting residential solar and storage systems.
  • 1+ year of documented work at heights, including rooftop access, ladder climbing, and repetitive lifting/bending tasks.
  • General knowledge of residential home maintenance and repair beyond solar systems.
  • Ability to safely climb ladders, stairs, and work on rooftops for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently throughout the workday.
  • Safe handling and maintenance of basic hand and power tools used in solar installations.
  • Ability to work in diverse environmental conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, and confined spaces.
  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Attention to detail and reliable, predictable attendance.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in team environments.
  • General construction or framing experience (preferred).
  • Electrical license (required in Massachusetts; preferred elsewhere).
  • Electrical experience (preferred).
