Job Description

SOLV Energy seeks a Solar Field Service Technician (Level 1) to perform maintenance and support work on utility-scale solar installations in Wharton County, TX. This full-time, on-site position offers hands-on experience in solar equipment servicing under direct supervision while building technical competency in a safety-focused environment.

About the Role

You will work as part of a field maintenance team supporting multiple solar plants and battery storage facilities. This role emphasizes safe work practices, equipment care, and development of troubleshooting skills under experienced supervision. You may be called upon to respond to emergency repairs as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field maintenance and basic service tasks on solar equipment at operational plants
  • Conduct equipment testing, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance using monitoring programs
  • Replace or repair solar parts and components under supervisor guidance
  • Maintain safe work practices at all times and seek clarification on unfamiliar tasks before proceeding
  • Operate and maintain company equipment, tools, and property
  • Respond to on-call emergency repair requests as directed by supervisor
  • Complete accurate documentation and work reports for all tasks performed
  • Suggest process improvements and collaborate on new technologies with EPC management
  • Complete assigned additional responsibilities as directed

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (vocational/technical training preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience or training in mechanical and electrical environments
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to identify and perform Lock Out/Tag Out procedures on energized systems
  • Basic knowledge of solar installation and plant operations
  • Familiarity with testing equipment and basic computer operation
  • NFPA 70e Safety Training certification required; must maintain current safety and technical certifications
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record and ability to operate company vehicles
  • Willingness to work on-call, including weekends and after-hours situations
  • Ability to work in remote locations and extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather)
  • Up to 10% travel for training, certifications, and site coverage
  • Physical capability to frequently stoop, bend, crouch, reach, lift 50+ lbs., climb, and work at heights
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and in high or difficult-to-access locations
  • Constant fine motor dexterity and ability to see detail at close and distance ranges, hear, and communicate clearly
