Job Description

Origis Energy Services seeks a Solar Electrician/Technician to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage systems in Penwell, Texas. This safety-sensitive position requires independent work on AC/DC electrical systems while adhering to strict safety protocols.

About the Role

The Solar PV & BESS O&M Technician maintains and repairs utility-scale solar photovoltaic and energy storage installations. You will monitor plant operations, perform preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot electrical systems, and keep detailed maintenance records. Senior-level technicians may lead advanced diagnostics, mentor junior staff, develop work procedures, and serve as the primary technical contact with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC systems, including inverters, PV modules, transformers, switchgear, and high-voltage components
  • Monitor plant operations through SCADA systems and support commissioning, testing, and system modifications
  • Follow strict safety protocols, including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and resolve site issues in coordination with remote operators
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS software
  • Execute installation tasks with proficiency in torquing, calibration, and specialized tool use
  • Provide guidance to junior technicians as appropriate to experience level
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting across multiple OEM platforms, including controls interface and system diagnostics (advanced positions)
  • Develop and implement LOTO procedures and electrical work plans (advanced positions)
  • Read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols (advanced positions)
  • Serve as primary customer interface communicating site conditions and technical findings (advanced positions)
  • Train and mentor junior technicians in safety standards and industry-approved practices (advanced positions)
  • Develop and execute work plans and maintenance schedules (advanced positions)

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in large-scale solar operations and maintenance (level of experience varies by position level)
  • Competency in industrial or utility power operations, troubleshooting, and general maintenance procedures
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and operate SCADA systems
  • Proficiency with CMMS software for maintenance tracking
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in SCADA and CMMS applications
  • Electrical certifications or industry training preferred
  • 4+ years of direct or related solar industry experience (for advanced positions)
  • Advanced knowledge of LOTO procedures and electrical work planning (for advanced positions)
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining multiple OEM systems (for advanced positions)
  • Ability to create complex schematics and work instructions (for advanced positions)
  • Strong experience with industrial control interfaces (for advanced positions)
  • Advanced organizational skills with ability to multitask and prioritize competing requests (for advanced positions)
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods in varying weather conditions
  • Capacity to lift and carry tools or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds
  • Clear visual acuity (with or without corrective lenses) for reading schematics and working with tools and meters
  • Fine motor skills and strong hand-eye coordination for precise tasks
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours and maintain on-call rotation schedule as necessary
  • Compliance with drug-free and alcohol-free workplace policies

Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $25–$45/hour (based on technician level)
  • Position levels: Solar Technician 2 through Solar Technician 4
  • Regional travel may occasionally be required to support various site demands
