Job Description

Origis Energy Services seeks Solar Electricians/Technicians for utility-scale PV and battery energy storage system operations and maintenance at its Penwell, Texas facility. This is a safety-sensitive position involving independent troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC/DC electrical systems.

About the Role

The Solar PV & BESS O&M Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs utility-scale solar PV and energy storage systems. The role requires understanding of solar operations and electrical systems, with the ability to work independently while adhering to established safety procedures. Technicians contribute to site efficiency through preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, and system monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC systems, including inverters, PV modules, transformers, switchgear, and high-voltage components
  • Monitor plant operations through SCADA systems and contribute to commissioning, testing, and system modifications
  • Follow strict safety protocols, including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), ensuring compliance with site procedures
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance activities as required
  • Coordinate with remote operators to identify and resolve site issues
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS software
  • Provide guidance to other technicians based on experience level
  • Execute installation tasks with proficiency in torquing, calibration, and specialized tool use
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting across multiple OEM platforms, including controls interfaces and system diagnostics (advanced positions)
  • Develop and implement LOTO procedures and electrical work plans (advanced positions)
  • Read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols (advanced positions)
  • Serve as primary customer interface, communicating site conditions, technical findings, and needs to internal and external stakeholders (advanced positions)
  • Verify tooling and parts against work plans and generate reports on findings and recommendations (advanced positions)
  • Train and mentor junior technicians in safety standards and industry-approved practices (advanced positions)
  • Develop and execute work plans and maintenance schedules (advanced positions)

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in large-scale solar operations and maintenance (experience level varies by position)
  • Competency in industrial or utility power operations, troubleshooting, and general maintenance procedures
  • Ability to read electrical schematics
  • Proficiency operating SCADA systems
  • Experience using CMMS software for maintenance tracking
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with SCADA and CMMS applications
  • Electrical certifications or industry training preferred
  • 4+ years of direct or related solar industry experience (advanced positions)
  • Advanced knowledge of LOTO procedures and electrical work planning (advanced positions)
  • Proficiency troubleshooting and maintaining multiple OEM systems (advanced positions)
  • Ability to create complex schematics and work instructions (advanced positions)
  • Strong experience with industrial control interfaces (advanced positions)
  • Advanced organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize (advanced positions)
  • Ability to stand, walk (including 2+ miles per day), climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods in varying weather conditions
  • Capacity to lift and carry tools or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds
  • Clear visual acuity (with or without corrective lenses) for reading schematics and working with tools and meters
  • Fine motor skills and strong hand-eye coordination for precise tasks
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours and maintain on-call rotation schedule as necessary
  • Compliance with drug-free and alcohol-free workplace policies

Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $25–$45/hour (based on position level and experience)
  • Position levels: Solar Technician 2 through Solar Technician 4
  • Regional travel may occasionally be required to support various site demands
  • Opportunities available across multiple states: Texas, Tennessee, New Mexico, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana
