Solar Electrician / Technician

Origis Energy Services seeks a Solar PV & BESS O&M Technician in Odessa, Texas to maintain and troubleshoot utility-scale solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems. This is a safety-sensitive position responsible for preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, and system monitoring across large-scale installations.

About the Role

The Solar PV & BESS O&M Technician performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on utility-scale solar and energy storage systems. The role requires independent work within established safety protocols, contributing to site operational efficiency through preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, and continuous system monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC systems, including inverters, PV modules, transformers, switchgear, and high-voltage components
• Monitor plant operations through SCADA systems and contribute to commissioning, testing, and system modifications
• Follow strict safety protocols, including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), in full compliance with site procedures
• Troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance activities as required
• Work with remote operators to identify and resolve site issues efficiently
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities using CMMS software
• Provide guidance to other technicians appropriate to experience level
• Execute installation tasks with proficiency in torquing, calibration, and use of specialized tools
• Lead advanced troubleshooting across multiple OEM platforms, including controls interface and system diagnostics
• Develop and implement Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical work plans
• Read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols
• Serve as primary customer interface, communicating site conditions, needs, and technical findings to internal and external stakeholders
• Verify tooling and parts against work plans and generate reports on findings and recommendations
• Train and mentor junior technicians on safety standards and industry-approved practices
• Develop and execute work plans and maintenance schedules

Requirements

• Valid driver's license
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in large-scale solar operations and maintenance (extent varies by position level)
• Competency in industrial or utility power operations, troubleshooting, and general maintenance procedures
• Ability to read electrical schematics and interpret complex technical documentation
• Proficiency with SCADA systems and CMMS software for maintenance tracking
• Strong computer skills in SCADA and CMMS applications
• Electrical certifications or industry training preferred
• For advanced positions: 4+ years of direct or related solar industry experience
• For advanced positions: Advanced knowledge of LOTO procedures and electrical work planning
• For advanced positions: Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining multiple OEM systems
• For advanced positions: Ability to create complex schematics and work instructions
• For advanced positions: Strong experience with industrial control interfaces
• For advanced positions: Advanced organizational skills with ability to multitask and prioritize competing requests
• Physical ability to stand, walk (including 2+ miles per day), climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods in varying weather conditions
• Ability to lift and carry tools or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds
• Clear visual acuity (with or without corrective lenses) for reading schematics and working with tools and meters
• Fine motor skills and strong hand-eye coordination for precise tasks
• Availability for work outside normal business hours and on-call rotation schedule as necessary
• Compliance with drug-free and alcohol-free workplace policies

Benefits

• Hourly rate: $25–$45/hour (based on experience level)
• Position levels: Solar Technician 2 through Solar Technician 4
• Occasional regional travel to support site operations across Texas, Tennessee, New Mexico, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana
