Job Description

Pearce Services seeks a Solar Field Service Technician 1 to perform inspection, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance on photovoltaic systems at commercial and utility-scale solar installations across California and Texas. This role requires up to 100% travel and offers the opportunity to work with mission-critical renewable energy infrastructure.

About the Role

You will conduct internal and external inspections and maintenance of PV solar panels, inverters, combiner boxes, and associated electrical components. The position involves hands-on diagnostics, equipment repair, and mentoring of team members while maintaining strict adherence to safety and environmental compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair inverters, combiner boxes, and string lines
  • Perform LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), IV curve tracing, megger/insulation testing, and infrared scans
  • Conduct daily mechanical and electrical inspections of solar power plant equipment
  • Test installed PV components to verify proper operation
  • Resolve solar system problems and issues in a timely manner
  • Document work activities including work orders, service orders, time logs, and emergency schedules
  • Operate and maintain company vehicles safely and in compliance with insurance requirements
  • Lead by example in maintaining established safety protocols and professional standards

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience on commercial or utility-scale solar sites
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical and power electronics troubleshooting and repairs
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E and OSHA 10 safety standards and ability to apply them in the field
  • Proficiency with digital multimeters, meggers, amp clamps, and similar diagnostic equipment
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work rotating shifts with up to 100% travel requirement
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions including heat, dust, pollen, and temperature extremes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Compliance with OSHA standards and ability to follow established safety procedures
