Job Description

Pearce Services seeks a Lead Solar Field Service Technician to manage field operations and crew supervision at utility-scale solar farms across North America. This is a 100% travel position based out of Dallas, Texas.

About the Role

You will lead a crew of 4+ field technicians on large, ground-mounted utility-scale solar projects (megawatt-scale), overseeing troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of solar arrays, central and string inverters, combiner boxes, and associated power plant equipment. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both technical expertise and crew management experience on active solar farm sites.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair utility-scale solar systems, including inverters, combiner boxes, and string circuits
  • Perform diagnostic testing: LOTO, IV curve tracing, megger/insulation testing, and IR thermography scans
  • Lead, assign work to, and direct 4+ field technicians on-site
  • Monitor job progress and ensure work completion meets schedule and quality standards
  • Conduct operations and maintenance (O&M) on utility-scale solar plants
  • Inspect completed work to verify compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Enforce OSHA and NFPA 70E safety requirements and protocols on-site
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical system issues and implement field solutions
  • Complete work orders, service logs, and required technical documentation
  • Operate and maintain company vehicle and field tools
  • Train and mentor junior technicians in troubleshooting and maintenance procedures

Requirements

  • 4–5+ years of hands-on experience with utility-scale solar installations and ground-mounted PV systems
  • Demonstrated experience leading or acting as lead technician on crews of 4+ personnel
  • Proven field experience with megawatt-scale solar systems (not residential or rooftop installations)
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and repair skills for inverters, DC systems, and power electronics
  • Proficiency with multimeters, meggers, amp clamps, and standard electrical testing equipment
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E safety standards
  • Hands-on experience with solar O&M and preventive maintenance work
  • Basic competency with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Willingness to travel 100% of the time to job sites in various climates and weather conditions
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, wind, and dust
