Job Description

Pearce Services seeks a Lead Solar Field Service Technician II for utility-scale solar operations based in Houston, Texas. This is a 100% travel position leading field crews on megawatt-scale solar farm maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.

About the Role

You will serve as a hands-on leader managing 2+ field technicians on active utility-scale solar sites. Your focus is ground-mount PV systems, central and string inverters, and power plant equipment across large solar farms. You are responsible for work quality, crew safety, schedule adherence, and on-site supervision of all solar O&M activities.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair utility-scale solar systems, including inverters, combiner boxes, and string circuits
  • Perform electrical testing: LOTO lockout/tagout, IV curve tracing, megger and insulation testing, thermal/IR scans
  • Lead and direct 2+ field technicians on active solar farm sites
  • Assign work tasks, monitor progress, and maintain project schedules
  • Execute operations and maintenance (O&M) on utility-scale solar plants
  • Inspect completed work to verify quality standards and safety compliance
  • Enforce on-site safety requirements per OSHA and NFPA 70E standards
  • Diagnose system faults and implement field repairs
  • Complete work orders, service logs, and documentation
  • Operate and maintain company vehicle and assigned tools
  • Train and mentor junior field technicians

Requirements

  • 3+ years hands-on experience with utility-scale solar systems (solar farms, ground-mount installations)
  • Demonstrated experience leading crews or acting as lead technician on solar sites
  • Expertise working on megawatt-scale PV systems (utility-scale only; not residential or rooftop)
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and repair skills: inverters, DC systems, power electronics
  • Proficiency with testing equipment: multimeters, meggers, amp clamps, thermal cameras
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E safety standards
  • Experience performing solar O&M and preventive maintenance
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to travel 100% (stationed at various solar farm sites)
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, dust, precipitation)

Pay Range: $28–$40 USD per hour, plus performance bonuses, referral bonuses, production incentives, tool/equipment stipends, and per diem as applicable. Actual compensation is based on experience, skill set, and location.
