Job Description
Sunrun, America's largest dedicated residential solar and storage company, is hiring a Lead Solar Installer in Bloomington, IL to oversee and execute residential PV installation projects while mentoring installation crew members.
About the Role
The Lead Installer is a hands-on crew member who directs daily solar installation activities on residential projects. You will coordinate fellow installers, ensure project quality and safety compliance, and participate in Sunrun's Power+ cross-training program to expand skills across sales qualification, inspection, and system service work.
Responsibilities
- Review and stock crew truck inventory at loading dock before job assignments
- Layout and assemble solar modules, racking systems, mechanical and structural mounts, and electrical equipment per project specifications
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and support mechanisms
- Assemble racking, PV modules, and support structures according to engineered plans
- Maintain clean and orderly job sites and perform site cleanup including customer areas and installation vehicles
- Enforce personal, crew, and job site safety protocols at all times
- Attend mandatory training on new products, installation methods, and safety procedures
- Lead crews through safe, effective, and efficient residential solar installations
- Provide technical guidance and support to fellow installation team members
- Assist with residential battery storage installations when assigned
- Serve as acting foreperson in the foreperson's absence
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous solar installation experience
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record; ability to pass driving background check
- Minimum age 21
- Adherence to company safety policies; ability to identify, report, and encourage safe work practices
- Ability to establish rapport and communicate tactfully with internal and external customers
- Proven track record meeting deadlines and performance metrics
- Willingness to participate in Power+ cross-training programs across departments
- Ability to work independently and as a team player in fast-paced environments
- Strong logical reasoning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to work on rooftops at various angles and heights; frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and balancing
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity
- Fine motor skills for detailed hand functions including manipulation, grasping, and pinching
- Ability to safely use ladders, fall protection harnesses, and personal protective equipment
- Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and shingles without damage
- Ability to distinguish colors including red, black, yellow, white, and green
- Ability to hear verbal commands and safety warnings
- Ability to work safely with chemicals and protective equipment
- Up to 5% travel required
