Job Description
The Lead Solar Installer role at Sunrun is based in East St. Louis, MO, and supports the launch of the company’s new St. Louis branch. The selected candidate will first complete several months of hands-on leadership work with the Chicago team before transitioning to lead installation crews from the St. Louis location when it opens in early 2027. The position includes a 2-weeks-on / 4-days-off rotation in Chicago during the pre-launch period, with Sunrun covering 100 percent of travel time pay, hotel lodging, and daily per diem.
Responsibilities
- Review inventory at the loading dock to confirm the assigned crew truck is adequately stocked.
- Layout and assemble solar modules, mechanical and structural mounts, electrical equipment, and tools in preparation for installation.
- Apply weather sealing to roofing structures, buildings, or support mechanisms.
- Assemble racking, solar modules, panels, or support structures according to project plans.
- Maintain a clean and orderly job site and perform project cleanup on client sites and installation vehicles.
- Ensure personal, crew, and job-site safety at all times.
- Participate in mandatory training sessions on new products, installation methods, and safety.
- Lead crew members through safe, effective, and efficient installations.
- Provide leadership, technical expertise, and support to crew members.
- Assist with solar battery installations when assigned.
- Serve as acting Foreperson in the Foreperson’s absence when assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous solar installation experience required; equivalent construction or military experience may be considered.
- Valid driver’s license, minimum age of 21, and ability to maintain a clean driving record and pass a driving background check.
- Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces, requiring frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, turning, standing, and balance.
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces, requiring kneeling and crouching.
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions including excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, wet environments, and humidity.
- Ability to frequently perform fine motor skills including fine manipulation, grasping, and pinching.
- Ability to work within the safe range of ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment.
- Ability to work and maintain balance on roofs and other elevated areas.
- Ability to work in sun and low-light conditions.
- Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without damage.
- Ability to distinguish colors such as red, black, yellow, white, and green.
- Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings.
- Ability to work with chemicals using appropriate protections.
- Willingness to participate in the Power+ program, including cross-training in other departments.
- 5 percent travel required.
