Job Description

Palmetto Clean Tech seeks a Solar Field Service Technician in Dallas, Texas to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain residential solar and energy storage systems throughout their operational life, serving as the primary field representative for service quality and customer experience.

About the Role

This position reports to the Team Lead of Service Operations and functions as a utility player supporting service delivery, installation closeout, permitting, and inspections. You will diagnose and resolve system performance issues on-site, conduct customer communications, document work completion, and provide feedback to drive continuous improvement across Palmetto's field operations. The role emphasizes building strong lifetime customer relationships while maintaining system performance standards across the 25+ year lifespan of residential solar installations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform onsite troubleshooting and repair of residential solar and energy storage systems.
  • Complete system documentation and job closeout reports for each service visit.
  • Schedule and confirm site visits directly with customers as needed.
  • Coordinate with local field teams and central scheduling to minimize resolution times.
  • Assist with pre-energization closeout tasks to ensure systems are operational on permission-to-operate day.
  • Conduct site surveys, physical inspections, and document collection.
  • Perform operations and maintenance (O&M) work and system monitoring support.
  • Conduct safety and quality audits, job closeout reviews, and site inspections.
  • Perform field installations including PV modules, battery storage, and structural upgrades as needed.
  • Support damage investigations and insurance claims assessments.
  • Provide field training to partners and internal teams.
  • Communicate system status and service timelines to homeowners professionally and clearly.
  • Report installation quality and execution feedback to field leadership to support ongoing improvement.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience installing, repairing, and troubleshooting residential solar and energy storage systems.
  • 1+ year of documented work at heights, including rooftop access, ladder climbing, and repetitive lifting, bending, and standing.
  • Ability to safely climb ladders and work on rooftops for extended periods.
  • Capacity to lift 50 pounds frequently throughout the workday.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and power tools commonly used in solar installation.
  • General knowledge of residential home maintenance and repair.
  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, crawl spaces, confined areas).
  • Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation practices.
  • Reliable, predictable attendance.
  • Collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Electrical license (required in Massachusetts; advantageous in other states).
  • General construction or framing experience (preferred).
  • Electrical experience (preferred).
