Palmetto Clean Tech seeks a Solar Field Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain residential solar and energy storage systems in the Pittsburgh area. Reporting to the Team Lead of Service Operations, you will troubleshoot system performance issues, coordinate customer visits, and support installation closeout activities to ensure reliable operation across the 25+ year lifespan of customer systems.
About the Role
This position supports Palmetto's service and installation operations across the Pittsburgh region. You will serve as a field troubleshooter and quality representative, balancing reactive service calls with proactive site inspections, pre-energization closeout, and coordination with internal teams to resolve customer issues efficiently and professionally.
Responsibilities
Perform onsite troubleshooting and repair of residential solar PV and energy storage systems
Complete operation and maintenance (O&M) work and monitoring support
Conduct physical site surveys and site visits for inspections and document collection
Document all service visits and complete job closeout reports
Schedule and confirm site visits directly with customers
Coordinate with local field teams and central scheduling to optimize issue resolution time
Support closeout of pre-energization issues to ensure systems are ready to operate on Day 1 after permission to operate
Perform safety and quality site audits, job closeout (JCO) reviews, and site inspections
Assist with field installations including PV modules, energy storage systems, and structural upgrades as needed
Conduct damage and claims investigations
Provide feedback to field leadership and the Customer Experience team to drive continuous improvement in installation quality and service resolution
Communicate professionally with homeowners regarding arrival times and service status
Maintain established SLAs for service work site visits
Requirements
3+ years of hands-on experience installing, repairing, and troubleshooting residential solar PV and storage systems
1+ year of working at heights, including on rooftops, climbing ladders and stairs, and performing repetitive duties such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
Ability to safely climb ladders, stairs, and work on rooftops for extended periods
Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently throughout the workday
Ability to safely handle and maintain basic hand and power tools used in solar installation
General knowledge of residential home maintenance and repair
Willingness and ability to work in varied environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, crawl spaces, etc.)
Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record
Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor
Strong attention to detail
Reliable, predictable attendance
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
General construction or framing experience (preferred)
