Job Description

SOLV Energy is seeking a Solar Field Service Technician (Level 1) for utility-scale solar and battery storage operations in the Spring Grove, VA area. This entry-level position emphasizes safe work practices while providing hands-on training in solar equipment maintenance and field service.

About the Role

You will perform field maintenance on utility-scale solar installations and battery storage systems under supervision, learning industry safety protocols and technical procedures. The role requires responsiveness to on-call emergency situations and collaboration with project teams to identify operational improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and care for company equipment, tooling, and vehicles at solar plant sites
  • Perform basic solar equipment testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks under supervision using monitoring programs
  • Replace or repair solar equipment and components under direct guidance
  • Respond on-call to assist with emergency equipment repairs, including weekends and after-hours situations
  • Execute Lock Out/Tag Out procedures on energized systems and equipment
  • Document work performed and complete required field reports accurately
  • Assess processes and suggest improvements in coordination with EPC management
  • Maintain adherence to all safety and quality procedures on site

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; vocational or technical school training preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical or electrical environments through formal training or prior work
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Basic knowledge of solar plant installations and operations
  • Ability to identify and perform Lock Out/Tag Out of energized equipment
  • Basic familiarity with electrical testing equipment
  • NFPA 70E Safety Training certification (obtain during employment)
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to operate company vehicles
  • Proficiency with verbal and written English communication
  • Basic computer operation skills
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Willingness to work on-call basis, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to work in remote locations and extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather)
  • Physical capability to frequently stoop, bend, crouch, reach, handle tools, stand, walk, and lift 50+ lbs
  • Ability to climb, work at heights, access difficult locations, and work near moving mechanical parts
  • Constant ability to see details at close and distance range, hear clearly, speak effectively, and maintain depth perception
  • Tolerance for frequent exposure to outdoor weather, dust, fumes, vibration, and high noise levels
  • Occasional exposure to electric shock, radiation, and toxic or caustic chemicals

Compensation: $22.00–$31.00 per hour
