Solar Field Service Technician I

The Solar Field Service Technician I position at Pearce Services is located in Houston, Texas, and requires 100% travel to utility-scale solar farm sites. The role centers on troubleshooting, repair, and operations and maintenance for ground-mount PV systems, central and string inverters, and related power plant equipment.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair utility-scale solar systems, including inverters, combiner boxes, and string circuits
• Conduct testing procedures such as LOTO, IV curve tracing, megger and insulation testing, and IR scans
• Carry out operations and maintenance activities on utility-scale solar plants
• Review completed work to confirm compliance with quality and safety standards
• Apply OSHA and NFPA 70E safety requirements at job sites
• Identify and resolve system issues directly in the field
• Document work orders, service logs, and other required records
• Maintain company vehicles and tools in operational condition

Requirements

• 1-2+ years of utility-scale solar experience on solar farms or ground-mount systems
• Direct experience with megawatt-scale PV systems
• Electrical troubleshooting and repair skills for inverters, DC systems, and power electronics
• Background in solar O&M and maintenance tasks
• Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E safety standards
• Proficiency with multimeters, meggers, amp clamps, and related testing equipment
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs
• Capacity to work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and dust
