Job Description

Pearce Services, a leading provider of asset management and maintenance solutions for electrical infrastructure across North America, is seeking a Lead Solar Field Service Technician in Los Angeles, California. This is a 100% travel position focused on utility-scale solar farm operations and repair.

About the Role

You will lead field crews (4+ technicians) performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair work on utility-scale solar installations, including ground-mount systems, central and string inverters, and related power plant equipment. This hands-on leadership role requires directing crew assignments, ensuring work meets safety and quality standards, and maintaining project schedules on active megawatt-scale solar farm sites.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair utility-scale PV systems, inverters, combiner boxes, and string circuits
  • Perform diagnostic testing including LOTO lockout/tagout, IV curve tracing, megger/insulation testing, and thermal IR scans
  • Lead and supervise 4+ field technicians on utility-scale solar farm sites
  • Assign work tasks, monitor progress, and ensure on-time job completion
  • Execute operations and maintenance (O&M) procedures on utility-scale solar plants
  • Inspect completed work for compliance with quality and safety standards
  • Enforce OSHA and NFPA 70E safety requirements on-site
  • Diagnose system failures and implement field repairs
  • Document work orders, service logs, and project records
  • Operate company vehicle and maintain field tools and equipment
  • Coach and develop junior field technicians

Requirements

  • 4–5+ years of hands-on experience with utility-scale solar systems (ground-mount solar farms, not residential or rooftop installations)
  • Demonstrated experience leading or acting as lead technician on crews of 4 or more
  • Direct experience on megawatt-scale PV systems and power electronics
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and repair of inverters and DC systems
  • Practical experience with solar O&M and preventive maintenance
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards
  • Hands-on experience with multimeters, meggers, amp clamps, and diagnostic test equipment
  • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to travel 100% to various solar farm sites
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office
