Job Description

Pearce Services seeks a Lead Solar Field Service Technician II for utility-scale solar operations in the Los Angeles, CA area. This is a 100% travel position managing field crews and performing troubleshooting and maintenance on ground-mount solar farms.

About the Role

You will lead a crew of 2 or more field technicians on active utility-scale solar farm sites, handling hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of ground-mount PV systems, central and string inverters, and associated power plant equipment. This role combines technical expertise in megawatt-scale solar with direct supervisory responsibility for crew coordination, safety compliance, and on-time project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair utility-scale solar systems, including inverters, combiner boxes, and string circuits
  • Perform electrical testing including LOTO, IV curve tracing, megger/insulation testing, and infrared scans
  • Lead and direct 2 or more field technicians on active solar farm sites
  • Assign work tasks, track progress, and ensure projects stay on schedule
  • Conduct operations and maintenance (O&M) on utility-scale solar plants
  • Inspect completed work and verify compliance with quality and safety standards
  • Enforce OSHA and NFPA 70E safety requirements on-site
  • Diagnose system issues and implement field-level resolutions
  • Complete work orders, service logs, and required documentation
  • Operate and maintain company vehicle and field tools
  • Train and support junior technicians in the field

Requirements

  • 3 or more years of hands-on experience with utility-scale solar systems (ground-mount solar farms, not residential rooftop)
  • Demonstrated experience leading crews or acting as lead technician on-site
  • Proven experience working on megawatt-scale photovoltaic systems
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and repair skills in inverters, DC systems, and power electronics
  • Proficiency with multimeters, meggers, amp clamps, and other testing equipment
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E safety standards
  • Experience with solar operations and maintenance (O&M) work
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to travel 100% to utility-scale solar sites
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, dust)

Base Pay Range: $28–$40 USD per hour. Compensation varies based on skill set, experience level, and location. Employees may be eligible for performance and referral bonuses, production incentives, tool and equipment stipends, and per diem where applicable.
