Job Description

Pearce Services seeks a Solar Field Service Technician 1 to perform inspection, maintenance, and repair of photovoltaic systems at commercial and utility-scale solar installations. Based in Los Angeles, CA or the Houston/Dallas, TX area, this role requires up to 100% travel and involves both internal and external PV component work, with opportunities to mentor team members.

About the Role

This position focuses on troubleshooting, testing, and repairing solar panel systems and related electrical equipment. You will conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on PV arrays, inverters, combiner boxes, and associated components while adhering to established safety and environmental procedures. The role includes hands-on field work in outdoor and indoor environments, equipment operation, and detailed documentation of all service activities.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair inverters, combiner boxes, and string line components.
  • Perform LOTO (lockout/tagout), IV curve tracing, megger/insulation testing, and infrared scans.
  • Conduct internal and external inspections of solar panels, inverters, and PV system components.
  • Execute daily mechanical and electrical inspections to verify equipment functionality.
  • Operate and maintain solar power plants according to established standards and procedures.
  • Diagnose and resolve solar system issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation including work orders, service orders, time logs, and emergency schedules.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and keep them clean and functional.
  • Mentor team members and model professional safety practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience on commercial or utility-scale solar sites.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical and power electronics systems.
  • Proficiency with digital multimeters, meggers, amp clamps, and similar diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E and OSHA 10 safety standards; ability to apply these in the field.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts and travel up to 100% of the time.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and ambient temperatures.
  • Compliance with OSHA standards and health and safety protocols.

Compensation: Base pay range of $20–$22 USD per hour, with eligibility for performance bonuses, referral incentives, production bonuses, tool/equipment stipends, fuel allowances, and per diem as applicable. Actual compensation varies based on experience, skill set, and location.
