Job Description
Pearce Services seeks a Solar Field Service Technician for operations and maintenance work at solar energy sites near Mojave, California. This role involves preventative and corrective maintenance of utility-scale solar equipment, with hands-on troubleshooting and equipment testing responsibilities.
About the Role
You will perform operations and maintenance duties at solar power plants in the Mojave area, working independently and collaboratively to keep utility and sub-station equipment functioning safely and reliably. Responsibilities
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on solar utility and sub-station equipment
- Troubleshoot and test installed solar equipment using digital multimeters, meggers, amp clamps, and similar diagnostic tools
- Perform electrical component troubleshooting to ensure proper system operation
- Document work orders, time logs, inventory control, and emergency information schedules
- Execute Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) according to safety protocols
- Operate and maintain a motor vehicle safely and legally per company policy and insurance requirements
- Work effectively in both solo and team environments
- Train and mentor laborers to apprentice-level competency as needed
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of commercial or industrial operations and maintenance experience on solar power plants (preferred)
- Preventative maintenance experience on solar utility equipment (preferred)
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and installation skills
- Familiarity with solar inverters, tracker systems, or sub-station equipment (TMEIC, SMA, Sungrow, Nextracker, ATI, or similar) (preferred)
- Compliance with OSHA standards
- Valid driver's license with ability to operate a vehicle safely and legally
- Residency within approximately 50 miles of Mojave, California (required)
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in ambient temperature conditions
- Availability for weekend and holiday shifts, plus on-call telephone/text service
- Up to 25% travel as needed to support company operations
- High work ethic and willingness to take initiative in escalating on-site issues
