Job Description

Sunrun, the largest dedicated residential solar and storage company in the United States, is hiring an Electrical Apprentice/Solar Installer in Providence, RI. This role offers hands-on training in PV module installation, racking systems, and residential solar construction within a vertically integrated company that manages projects from sale through installation and service.

About the Role

As an Electrical Apprentice/Solar Installer, you will work as part of a residential solar installation crew under the direction of a Foreperson and Lead Installer. Your contributions will be essential to completing rooftop solar projects safely and to specification, with opportunities to cross-train across multiple departments including sales qualification, installation, inspection, and system servicing.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain personal, crew, and job site safety at all times; participate in training on products, installation methods, and safety protocols
  • Verify truck inventory and stock at the loading dock to ensure crew equipment is complete before dispatch
  • Lay out, assemble, and position solar modules, racking systems, mechanical/structural mounts, and electrical equipment according to project specifications
  • Apply weather sealing to roofing structures and building support mechanisms
  • Perform site cleanup including customer property and work vehicle maintenance to keep job sites clean and organized

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an approved Rhode Island electrical apprenticeship program (CCRI, Chariho Adult Education, New England Institute of Technology, Newport County Apprentice Training Academy, Penn Foster, RICTA/ABC Rhode Island, Roger Williams University, or Massachusetts-approved equivalent)
  • Ability to transport materials and equipment up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to work on rooftops of various angles and surfaces, including frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, and balancing
  • Ability to climb ladders and work safely at heights with fall protection equipment
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions including noise, heat, cold, wet environments, and humidity
  • Fine motor skills for hand functions including manipulation, grasping, and pinching
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces
  • Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings
  • Ability to distinguish colors (red, black, yellow, white, green)
  • Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without causing damage
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Courteous and professional manner with customers and coworkers
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work effectively as a team member in a fast-paced environment
  • Previous solar, construction, or military experience preferred but not required
